I'm still 23, right?

I frequently catch myself in my thoughts, "I'm 32.  I'm 32..."  I have to remind myself of my age- does that just get worse as time goes on?  Uh oh.  I also frequently look at my life and say, "I'm not old enough for this.  I'm married and a mother- like I know what I'm doing!"  Sigh.  Regardless of these musings, my 2 little boys steal my heart every day, despite the exasperating moments.  Here are a few of the latest happenings of my 2 little macacos....

DEREK:

Him peeing into the water play area at Discovery Gateway on a preschool field trip.  Some germo-phobe parent had to have been watching, in utter freak-out mode.

On the way to the bank to sign onto my mother's account, Derek wanted her to get out of the way so we could pass the firetruck up ahead.

Leaning out the mini-car shopping cart at the grocery store so he could drive a toy truck someone left there.  We went all through the store with him leaning out, driving that silly truck.

At dinner the other night, Tyler said he wants to go fishing next week and was saying he didn't know who he'd take.  Derek immediately piped up, "Take me!" and then proceeded to give Daddy his cheezy smile.

BENJAMIN:

He's finally decided that taking a few walking steps for Mommy is okay, but I'd better not ask too much!

Biting Derek back in wrestling session. The kid's just trying to find a defense mechanism of some kind that's effective!

Climbing into the tupperware drawer one morning in hopes it would boost him higher so he could see what Mommy was doing.  It was all for naught, but he sat down and made himself comfortable.

When throwing a fit, he prefers to be carried like a sack of potatoes.  Not so easy for Mommy.

Making little sound effects while driving cars on the floor or window seal.

TYLER:

Okay, so I just wanted to take a moment and celebrate, again, that he's starting a new job soon!!!!!  He'll start at the Utah State Prison as an EMT on April 15.  Kissing graveyards goodbye is a very exciting change we're all looking forward to.  He can get on the path for his chosen career in Emergency Management.  It's like the flood gates have opened as a sign that this is the right thing for him and thus our little family.

MINDY:

I have a love-hate relationship with marathon training.  Sigh.  Someone very smart and with large capacities to decipher brain and behavior needs to dissect my brain.  I really think my chances are good for a BQ in Ogden in May, but then I'm nervous because I only have 2 long runs left, both 20 milers.  Part of me wants like another 3-4 weeks to train.  That darn perfectionism!! Well that was a nice little spell of a runner's venting session.

*It's 9:45 and I should be in bed.  Good night.  Oh, and Derek's crying.  He probably needs to go xi xi.

The Best Entertainment Money Can't Buy

I'd like to take this opportunity to document our childrens' nack for entertaining us (their parents) without even knowing it.  Below are a few of the latest happenings...

Derek:

Daddy discovered him on the brick border of a flower bed in the back yard a few days ago with his pants around his ankles, peeing.  When asked what he was doing, little Derek simply responded, "I need mud!"

At dinner a few nights ago Derek was assigning us all characters from Toy Story.  Benjamin was "Bullseye" Mommy was "Jesse" and Daddy was "Slinky."  When Tyler asked Derek who he was, Derek said he was "Slinky" too.  Tyler proceeded to ask him if he, himself, was "Slinky's" head or bum.  "Daddy, you're Slinky's tenders," was the quick response.  Well then...

His current favorite color is green. His favorite number is 4 and he frequently reminds us he'll be 4 on his next birthday.  He rotates between the following movies: "Cars," "Despicable Me," and "The Incredibles."  For now that is.  We'll see what movies he rotates to next.  However, "Cars" is the constant denominator in it all.
He still LOVES to help out and always wants to know what's going on and how he can participate.  A favorite new "tactic" is to say he can't do something because he's "sick."  Oh boy- already?!

He's taken after Mommy and LOVES peanut butter and trailmix.  Mommy think he likes running to (hopefully- time will tell).

Benjamin:

He took his first steps for Grandma and Grandpa Canova while Mommy and Daddy were on a romantic getaway for their 6th anniversary.  When coaxed to perform for Mommy and Daddy, his legs all-of-a-sudden became rubber.  Stinker!

He has a "swagger" when he crawls.  Oh yeah- Mr. Cool! He recently discovered slides and goes down the small one in our backyard over and over, every time reacting like it's the first.

Mr. Expressive cries out when Derek comes to do anything close to him.  Even if Older Brother bestows a hug, Benjamin braces himself for the worst.  He has a love-hate relationship with wrestling with Derek.  He is frequently bossed around by Derek, so the reactions are somewhat merited.

He is Mr. Social and flirts with the babysitters at church- Lucy Schaffer and Maleece Burnett.

He is so kind to books and loves looking through their pages.  He loves scrambled eggs, bread, cheese, graham crackers, grapes, grape tomatoes, cucumber, and can already feed himself quite efficiently with a fork or spoon and almost demands he not be spoon-fed by someone.  He's still my bundle of squishiness.

*So there you have it, proof that all the horror stories of parenting  are pointless.  Not that they don't occurr, but really people- the fun and joy out-weight the exasperations!  Well, most of the time...

Making new habits, maybe...

I'm not going to try and really catch up since the last post.  That would be ridiculous.

Benjamin David Canova arrived on January 11, 2012 and has been a delight ever since.  He's always very expressive.  We're working on getting him to walk, now that he's 13 months old.  He makes lots of silly faces.

Derek LOVES preschool and is always singing songs from there or primary.  He currently thinks "Hickory, Dickory Dock" is "Hickory Hickory Dock" and is always correcting us.  He now thinks his nipples on his chest are chocolate chips. Today he sent himself to "time out" for accidently biting Mom.

Tyler is in constant jet lag due to working graveyards and actually considered leaving cookie cutters scattered on the kitchen floor after I asked him to pick them up because he didn't know where to put them (their bucket had broken and I suggested old icecream buckets).  In what reality is it okay to leave cookie cutters everywhere?- until your foot is bleeding from continually stepping on them?!  Anywho, poor guy is really handling it well.  He loves wrestling with the boys.

I am always finding cleaning to do, staying up for "one more thing" before going to be (yep, that would be right now).  I'm trying to decide how serious I wanna be about marathon training right now and REALLY want the bathroom finished, Tyler.  Not to mention the laundry room, yes, that's you again, Tyler.  Winter can end now.  It's been ridiculously cold and snowy and I could settle for high's in the high 30's or low 40's. But alas, I cannot control the weather.

Okay, enough!  I'm going to try and be more consistent with blogging.  Not sure why, who really reads this but us?
